‘About 4 years ago I developed shin splints whilst running. Initially it was only painful after running 3 miles, but gradually became more painful. The symptoms started kicking in earlier and became a chronic, constant daily problem. Despite various treatments it would not resolve and I could not run without pain.
I wanted to joint The Royal Marines and had to pass stringent fitness tests. The pain in my shins was so bad that I failed the tests. At this point I saw Wendy for treatment. She told me that the shin splints had developed because of muscle imbalance in my legs and the mechanics of my feet. She made me some orthotics to improve my foot mechanics and prescribed me a training regime to improve the muscle balance in my legs whilst she treated the painful areas.
The treatment was completely successful. I have just passed the fitness test to join The Royal Air Force and have commenced training. I could not have done this if I still had my shin splint problem.'
